Could Stocks Really Drop This Low?

Dear Reader,

Just a quick one today. I know we don’t usually write to you on a Sunday. And never on Australia Day. But this isn’t a note…or an essay.

It’s a video. Number four in my five-part series, looking at the perilous state of the Australian economy and stock market. What’s happening? Why? What’s coming? Why do we need to know? And what can we do about it?

You’ll know from the past few days (in fact, from the past few weeks and months) that I believe our long run of economic good fortune is lurching to its end.

You’ll know what I’m doing about that, with my money. And you’ll know that I think everyone in my age bracket — with dreams of a long, happy retirement — should do the same (and soon).

If you’re in any doubt about that, you should take a few minutes to watch today’s video, titled: ‘How Far Could Australian Stocks Fall in A Crash?’.

Spoiler alert: It’s a big number.

People never believe these huge falls are possible. But people have short memories…

Thanks for your time today. And do enjoy the rest of your Australia Day weekend!

As you’ll see when my new research report lands on Wednesday, it’s not all bad. Believe it or not I’m an optimist and a patriot!

Enjoy your beer and barbecue today. I plan to. The good times will be back. My strategy aims to have you in the best possible financial shape for that.

In fact, if this all plays out as I expect it to, those who follow my advice may find that their retirement plans don’t need to suffer at all

It’s all in the timing…which is why you need to read my new report, when it comes out on Wednesday.

Regards,

Vern has been involved in financial planning since 1986. In 1999, Personal Investor magazine ranked Vern as one of Australia’s Top 50 financial planners. His previous firm, Gowdie Financial Planning, was recognised in 2004, 2005, 2006 & 2007, by Independent Financial Adviser magazine as one of the top five financial planning firms in Australia. In 2005, Vern commenced his writing career with the ‘Big Picture’ column for regional newspapers and was a commentator on financial matters for Prime Radio talkback. In 2008, he sold his financial planning firm due to concerns about an impending economic downturn and the impact this would have on the investment industry. In 2013, he joined Port Phillip Publishing as editor of Gowdie Family Wealth. In 2015, his book The End of Australia sold over 20,000 copies and launched his second premium newsletter, The Gowdie Letter. Vern has since published two other books, A Parents Gift of Knowledge, all about the passing of investing intelligence from father to daughter, and How Much Bull can Investors Bear, an expose on the investment industry’s smoke and mirrors. His contrarian views often place him at odds with the financial planning profession today, but Vern’s sole motivation is to help investors like you to protect their own and their family’s wealth.
